Daring Greatly

Finally! Picked up a good book that is not craft/sewing related or a magazine I can browse through while the kid’s are at swim class! It’s DARING GREATLY, by Dr. Brene Brown! (Thanks Oprah!)

After watching last weekend’s Lifeclass I started reading Daring Greatly last night. It couldn’t have come at the better time. Having ‘dared’ to start a blog I could relate to feeling vulnerable and being afraid of cynics & critics. I was hesitant for a long time to start a blog, about sharing personal information on the internet. After all, my family is my life!

This is a huge leap of faith for me. Although I have always lived my life wholeheartedly (I used to call this passion) I also believed that being vulnerable was not ‘professional’. At times I tried not to be too passionate and ‘get involved’ when I volunteered at my son’s school, when I talked to friends about politics, friendship, … about anything. Deep down I knew that if I can’t commit to something wholeheartedly I better not do it at all. In fact, disengaged and non-committed people drive me crazy. Still, it is not an easy thing to do to be vulnerable – especially on the internet! But I truly felt an urge to journal my life here on this blog that I call ‘Yasemin Tea’. I wanted to find a way to connect with people that I otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to meet. After all there are almost 6 billion! people in the world. And to quote Dr. Brown: “We are hardwired to connect with others, it’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives and without it there is suffering.”

It’s been a year since I had a chance to sit down and read a good book. But I am excited to have found this one and can’t wait to see what it teaches me but more importantly I am looking forward to growing this blog and with it overcoming my own vulnerability.

That’s it for today. I have a great book to finish!

Auf Wiedersehen! (It’s Thursday – Project Runway day … get it? ) 🙂
