Oh my goodness! It’s been a while since my last post, hasn’t it? Well, after my last post announcing our big plans to move the family to Germany THIS summer we have been busy actually preparing for it. It’s one thing to plan but action speaks louder than words. In the meantime the kids’ passports have been applied for, many many small pieces of furniture have been listed on Craigslist & sold! We’ve celebrated Easter:
Had some of our final soccer games…
I have gone fabric shopping not because I needed more fabric but because Citycraft in Dallas opened a brand new location in the Design District. Of course i had to at least go once before moving day… And i was very disciplened and only purchased Heather Ross’s Briar Rose fabrics! Perfectly matching the design of her book Weekend sewing which has been my favorite for years. Thise happy springy fabrics where just the right motivation to kick-start my spring sewing for the girls.
Seda got this swirly Easter Skirt:
For Stella I made these bloomers from Heather’s book:
And used the third Heather Ross fabric to make her a little Easter skirt of her own:
But since bloomers are so fun to make, super comfy to wear and since I am on a mission to sew away my stash I made two more bloomers for Miss Stella:
How sweet are those! I love the tiny polka dots!! And how ’bout them umbrellas!!! They are from Liesl Gibson’s line Lisette that I purchased at Joanns. This fabric with the pink paper boats is also Lisette. I’ve been saving it for months:
Seda wore this dress twice already! I used my go-to pattern from my all-time favorite sewing book:
It’s a pattern for a night dress but i found that it is so versatile.
I used the same pattern and made Seda this blouse too.
All I had to do was to shorten the length and omit the elastic neckline. Instead I put a box pleat in the center front and the sleeves and added a fabric covered button for extra cuteness. Super easy and cute on, too. I only wished Seda would wear Jeans sometimes or any other kind of pants. That would look so cute with this blouse. But she is and always will be the skirts & dresses only kind a gal. 🙁 oh well…
Talking about sewing & books, I won Annabel Wrigley’s book: We Love To Sew, Bedrooms the other day!!! How cool is that?!!
Just the book I need to decorate Seda & Stella’s first shared bedroom once we get to Germany! Cant’ wait. I especially want to try making this memo board with Seda:
And this cross-stitch heart art:
Oh, I can’t wait to find our new home in Germany! Only 6 more weeks before the BIG MOVE!!! Germany here we come!
P.S. And if you thought that was all the sewing in the last three weeks, think again! I sewed Seda a 50’s style circle skirt for her school sock hop:
Oh, that darned petticoat/tulle jambalaya! Almost made me give up sewing. But I think I learned a thing or two during the making of this swing skirt!!!
And finally, I got to two birthday presents: One was for Seda’s friend. I made a skirt with matching doll skirt and tote. Didn’t take pictures. Boo me 🙁
the other gift was for my dear friend Jen. I made her a quilted pillow to match her new reading chair. Again no pictures… This move is taking a toll on me.
